Online Auction: | Location: Showrooms | 10 Wiluna St, FYSHWICK
ID - 366887 - An Impressive Wilkinson England Presentation Sword with Display Stand & Plaque, dedicated to Oliver Baudert c.1980, with elegant thistle decoration to blade & maker's marks to both sides of ricasso, as found
Sword: 110cm (L)
Wall mount: 24cm (W) x 122cm (L)
ID - 366888 - A USA Winchester M1917 Knife Bayonet, for use with the Enfied M1917 .30 Caliber Rifle, in Leather Sheath; marked with 'W' in circle mark with 1917 for Winchester, with 'Flaming Ordinace'
The ricasso features marks to both sides: on one side, the 1917 (with serif) date mark and W in a circle for Winchester. The other side features a US (serif) mark, with a flaming ordinance mark above in the smiley variant; to the right, a x bend test inspection mark, to the left, a partly visible mark of an eagles head, with P-24 below.
There are no transverse cuts to the grip. There appears to be a British cypher to the grip, featuring a Crown with a T6 below and another obscured letter, to both sides (one fainter than the other).
The sheath is a leather body with steel throat, with brass belt hooks and a leather belt mount. There is an impressed marking within a lozenge to the leather body, and an incised arrow mark to the leather around the throat, in the manner of a British acceptance mark.
The entire bayonet is approx. 50cm in Length, with the Blade and Guard approx. 43.5cm.
ID - 366889 - A British Wilkinson Pattern 1907 Sword Bayonet, for use with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield Rifle, with steel & leather scabbard and frog; with Wilkinson stamp to ricasso, accompanied by 1907, 58cm
A British Wilkinson Pattern 1907 Sword Bayonet, for use with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield Rifle, with steel & leather scabbard and frog; with Wilkinson stamp to ricasso, accompanied by 1907 and indistinct marks, with X bend test to reverse with two British Cyphers: a crown above A6/E and a crown above X/E. There is an additional mark above the blackened ricasso, possibly a DX.
The pommel features a regimental mark: O.T.C. / AMP / 125 presumably for the Officers Training Corps, with a designation possibly for the Universities of Southampton, Wolverhampton, Northampton, or Roehampton.
Interestingly, the timber grip seems to have been switched, potentially, with the M1917 Bayonet also found within this auction and hailing from the same collection, and with British marks. The two notches (transverse cuts) to the grip were considered an integral feature of the M1917 to help distinguish it from other bayonets in low light.
The Bayonet is approx. 55.5cm in Length, with the entire blade in scabbard approx. 58cm.
