Our Indigenous Art Policy

The Auction Barn respects the cultural space and economic interests of Australian Indigenous artists and their communities.

Therefore, from the 1st of July 2022, The Auction Barn will introduce a new policy with respect to the provenance of Indigenous artworks we offer for sale.

All Indigenous artworks should be accompanied by:

  • Documentation linking the artwork to an Indigenous artist via a Community Art
Centre, agent or similar primary representative, including but not limited to signatures, photographs of the artist with the work, Community Art Centre catalogue details and biographical details of the artist
  • Research documentation supporting ethical provenance as determined by specialists, including but not limited to direct lineage to the artist, particularly in cases where the works have been created prior to the advent of Community Art Centres, or have been created outside the support of a Community Art Centre organisation

For further information on this policy, kindly contact The Auction Barn.
