Lot 240 - A pair of stately 1930s armchairs, upholstered in an emerald-teal brocade with arm covers and large timber ball feet, purportedly from the Chifley Rooms at the Hotel Kurrajong, Canberra, where Ben Chifley (b.1885 - d.1951), 16th Prime Minister of Australia, was resident at the hotel for eleven years until his death in 1951
Vendor acquired from previous owners, who purchased from the hotel c.1980s; verbal confirmation from a member Hotel Kurrajong staff suggested they were very likely original to the room at the time of Chifley's stay
Both for reupholstering, stained; springs for repair or adjustment; upholstery not original
