Lot 19 - An early 20th century brass assaying kit in parts, supposedly belonging to a Robert Bruce Taylor; who worked in the Magdala mine, Stawell, Victoria, and then with his father, Robert Bruce Taylor, until he was enlisted in WWI; R. B. Taylor, service no. 528, enlisted on the 4th of May 1915, and listed his age as 19 and his home town as Stawell, serving in France, was wounded with a gunshot to the thigh, and achieved the rank of Company Sergeant Major and a distinguished service medal for 'conspicuous gallantry and skill in leading patrols'; for further information, including a lovely preserved letter from his father stating he is fit to enlist, see record no. NAA B2455
