Lot 1524 - Stunning Vintage Dutch Zaanse Wall Clock with FHS (Germany) Clock Workings and "English Elegance" Clock Face
A beautiful original antique/vintage Dutch Zaanse wall clock. This clock is from circa 1960.
The traditional Dutch clock chimes on the half and full hour (chimes beautifully). A hammer is beating on a drum. Its weight driven by two brass pear shaped weights. This clock is in superb condition, the wood, the ornaments and the movement (the clock works perfectly).
The height of the clock is about 63 centimetre and the width is 26 centimetre. The pendulum is decorated with a beautiful piece horseman. The clockwork is made by the best clock company in Holland, namely the famous Wuba company.
These type of clocks were produced between 1950 and 1960. The company which was located in Almelo, the Netherlands was founded in 1929 produced quality clocks. However, after 75 years in business and craftsmanship dating back to the 17th century the Warmink family closed the doors of their company forever. So the clocks that exist today will never be manufactured again.
One can read on the ornaments around the top the following Dutch words: "Nu Elk Syn Sin" which means "To Each His Own" or "Every Man to His Taste". This is a reference to the freedom of religion after the Dutch rebelled successfully against the Spaniards. Ref - (43)
