This Pochoir is from Falbalas & Fanfreluches which some Consider to be George Barbies Greatest Work. Pochoirs from this Series are Rarely Found, as only 600 Copies were Issued.
The Pochoir Measures 19 cm x 12 cm Inside a Frame that Measures 32.5 cm x 27.5 Cm.
Regarded as One of the Finest French Illustrators of the Early Twentieth Century, Barbier Championed the ?pochoir? Process, Inspired by Japanese Wood Block Printing Techniques. Single Layers of Vivid Colour were Added by Hand to a Lithograph Using a Stencil, in a Precursor of the Silk-screening Technique which is now Widely Used for Art Prints. The Creators of Falbalas & Fanfreluches Took Great Care in Producing these Prints for a Privileged Group of 1920s Collectors.
George Barbier was Born in 1882 in Nantes, France. His First Exhibition in 1911 Swept him to the Forefront of his Profession with Commissions to Design Theatre / Ballet Costumes, Illustrate Books, and Produce Haute Couture Illustrations. In the Mid 1920's he Worked with Erte to Design Sets/costumes for the Folies Bergere. Barbier Passed Away in 1932 at Age Fifty at the Pinnacle of his Success. Reference (mf -35)
