Lot 440 - Stunning Large Studio Pottery Sphere Vase with a Rare Combination of Celadon and Tenmoku Glaze
Tenmokus are Known for their Variability. During their Heating and Cooling, Several Factors Influence the Formation of Iron Crystals Within the Glaze. A Long Firing Process and a Clay Body which is Also Heavily Coloured with Iron Increase the Opportunity for Iron from the Clay to be Drawn into the Glaze. While the Glaze is Molten, Iron can Migrate Within the Glaze to Form Surface Crystals.
Celadon is a Term for Pottery Denoting both Wares Glazed in the Jade Green Celadon Color, Also Known as Greenware (the Term Specialists now Tend to Use[1]), and a Type of Transparent Glaze, Often with Small Cracks, that was First Used on Greenware, but Later Used on other Porcelains. Celadon Originated in China, Though the Term is Purely European, and Notable Kilns such as the Longquan Kiln in Zhejiang Province are Renowned for their Celadon Glazes. Reference (mf -163)
