Superb large lithograph with mount under glass in a gold timber frame.
Signed, titled and editioned ''David Boyd, Guitar, 92/100'' in the margin at the bottom of the image.
Image 27 x 23.5 cm / frame 56.5 x 47.5 cm.
The lithograph and frame are in excellent condition.
Born in Murrembeena, Victoria in 1924, David Boyd trained in music before undertaking studies in art at the National Gallery School in Melbourne. Brother of Arthur Boyd and brother in law to John Perceval, he was an accomplished painter, potter, sculptor and printmaker who promoted contemporary figurative painting through his involvement with the Antipodeans group of artists. He has held numerous exhibitions in Australia and overseas and lived in Italy, England and France before returning permanently to Australia in 1975. He was president of the Contemporary Arts Society and was a member of the International Academy of Modern Art in Rome, Italy. He was awarded the Italian Government Scholarship in 1961 and in 2008 he received an OAM for his services to the arts.
David Boyd is represented in the collections of all major Australian public galleries including the National Gallery of Victoria, the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Art Gallery of Queensland, the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Art Gallery of Western Australia as well as many regional art galleries, institutional and university collections.
