Welcome to Ann's Jewellery
Jewellery Fashion Collectables
We moved to live on the Congo/Tanzania border of Lake Tangynika in 2000, to work with refugees fleeing from the rebels in Congo. The Congolese women had babies strapped to their backs with gorgeous textiles and children at foot as they landed in these huge dows on the Tanzanian side of the Lake. They looked so elegant in their waxed textiles and matching head wraps. They were happy at leaving the war and were singing and swaying to the rhythm of their songs. The UNHCR camps held 500,000 refugees from Congo, Burundi and Rwanda. African women are so elegant and stand rod like straight and their beauty impressed me. This was my introduction to Congolese textiles and later in the markets the glass beads traded into Africa from Venice and Bohemia. The trade into Africa was for palm oil, beads and more. We lived in East Africa for 11 years and whilst in Kenya i met the Yemen vendors selling their fantastic silver and coral necklaces and i was totally hooked by then on old beads and silver. Since then i have designed ethnic style jewellery and travelled many times to India and Morocco keeping up the tradition of ethnic styles. My aim is for you to be able to buy a piece of history, to wear it and receive lots of compliments and for me to keep up the designing in my studio. I sell in shops in and around NSW and my designs have become recognisable. I change the jewellery in my Cabinet often and some items may be at home so if you see something you like please contact Auction Barn for more information.
