Originally trained in the UK, Bodalla-based Baker was inspired by scientific theories, particularly in physics. His later paintings are abstract in style, arriving from thinking about the tensions between observation and imagination, light and colour, materiality and representation. This work is a rare example of Baker's use of layered sheets of perspex, resulting in a work which blends painting and sculpture to create an engaging experience for the viewer. Baker was the youngest artist admitted to the British Arts Society, and moved to Australia in 1972, where he was a finalist in the Wynne Art Prize in multiple years.
