Korbl served in the German Luftwaffe, was briefly a prisoner of war, and worked for the British Occupying Forces until he emigrated to Australia in 1956, where he served in the RAAF and the federal public service. He studied drawing and watercolours in Austria, and later took to landscape and floral painting in oils.
